POSITION SUMMARY

Soukup Construction is a regional leader in asphalt paving, demolition, excavation, heavy civil construction, site development, and underground utilities. Guided by our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Financial Success, and Teamwork, we are seeking an experienced Asphalt Estimator to join our growing team.

The Asphalt Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for asphalt paving, grading, and related roadway and site improvement projects. This position plays a critical role in evaluating project opportunities, analyzing construction documents, identifying project risks, and developing bid proposals that support the company's growth and long-term success.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple bids while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review plans, specifications, contracts, and project documents to determine project scope and requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for asphalt paving, milling, reclamation, grading, aggregate base, and related roadway and site improvement activities.
• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, trucking, subcontractors, and indirect project costs.
• Develop conceptual, budgetary, negotiated, and hard bid estimates.
• Analyze project risks, opportunities, exclusions, and constructability concerns during the asphalt estimating process.
• Evaluate production rates, crew requirements, equipment utilization, and material quantities to develop accurate pricing.
• Analyze historical project data and production information to improve estimate accuracy and consistency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 3 years of asphalt estimating, paving, grading, or roadway construction experience.
• Previous experience with asphalt paving operations, materials, and production methods preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Proficiency with construction estimating software and related technology platforms is preferred, including:
• HCSS HeavyBid
• B2W Estimate
• AGTEK
• Bluebeam Revu
• Microsoft Excel

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily office-based and requires extended periods of computer and desk work. Responsibilities will also include occasional travel to project sites, pre-bid meetings, and field inspections. Site visits may require walking on uneven terrain and exposure to varying weather conditions around active construction operations.
